Las Vegas is Nashville, Nashville is Las Vegas.
We're similarly sized metro areas, hockey was the first team for both cities, both cities were criticized for being "arena football" type cities.
The owner wanted Black Knights, that's whatever. He paid $500MM for a team, he can name it what he wants. Yesterday's team names were likely a leak to help in negotiations with the London Knights of the OHL to get the rights to Knights in Canada.
However, beyond all that surface cloudiness:
-Las Vegas is a Top 10 US Hockey ratings market and has been for years.
-Las Vegas got more season ticket deposits in three months without a team than Nashville and Columbus did in a year with a conditional franchise.
-Las Vegas has a higher percentage of the population that is "avid" hockey fans than every city in the US without an NHL team except for Grand Rapids and Portland, ME.
-We've got a higher percentage of the population that's "avid" hockey fans than something like 12 US cities with teams.
The team name has nothing to do with the fact that the owner is a very successful guy that knows what he's doing. If it's Black Knights, who cares? Do people complain about the Wild? To people make comments about the Blues/Blue Jackets? All of the complaining is low level bull**** for Canadians ****ed off that there isn't a team in Quebec or Hamilton and people that want edgy hot takes that take zero effort to formulate.
