that's framed and hangs on a wall in Boone's Tavern. It refers to MSU instead of MU and has some cheers from both schools. Mizzou was originally named "The State University of Missouri". I visited my fraternity headquarters and saw the original correspondence requesting a charter in 1898 that was on official university letterhead stationery. It was embossed with a line drawing of Jesse Hall and said the State University of Missouri.
When Missouri St. changed their name, some of our more historically inclined alums complained because MU used to be referred to as MSU. The claim was made that Mizzou evolved from MSU.
