response really missed the mark. By claiming it was the analytical move he implied that it would not have been his move. If you want the maintain the player's confidence, he should have said he believed it to be the right move, but it simply did not work this time. Then follow it up with a statement that he has full confidence in him getting the job next time.

Blaming analytics was a cop out.
