Next door neighbor is an elderly man estranged from his family. His wife died a while back, so he lived alone. He had twin sons. One committed suicide a few years ago. The other lives in Florida, but they haven't spoken in 15 years.

I primarily took care of him because he couldn't do a lot. The last several years I cut his grass. We'd take him food. Have him over for holidays, etc.

Out of the blue he sends me a text about a year and a half ago saying I'm the only family he has and he wants me to have his estate. It's not a lot, but it's a house and a car. The house is in poor condition, but in a very nice area. Fixed up around $600k. Mostly paid off.

I say great, but he never changes his will.

Found him dead last week. The executor of his will is a blue collar lady. Nice enough, but her husband is a handyman and has an aggressive personality. The man's body is in the next room and this guy is roaming the house making plans for it.

The estranged son is the only beneficiary. The lady (executor) contacted him and he renounced his interest and gave it all to her and her amped up husband. No doubt if he knew his dad's wishes, it'd be coming my way.

The couple are well aware of what he wanted, but they're happily taking the estate. Kind of a messed up situation, but no way am I going to call the son like some kind of vulture.
