1. Fans over estimate the instant turnaround. You can go from bad to solid, but truly good requires some continuity.
2. During his first year, I said the success of that year would delay the true rebuild and warp fan’s minds on how things should/would go.
3. His HS recruiting is the best we’ve seen since Quin.
4. Yes, HS recruiting is still critical and building guts together with chemistry is critical. The portal fills holes, it is VERY hard to build full teams in the portal every year.
5. His HS recruits are performing at a level generally appropriate for their recruiting rankings. VERY few frosh are immediate impact guys and those guys leave after 1 year.
6. His offense is lacking. It relies on skill and shooting and is not good at generating tough points.
7. His defense is a high risk, high reward style that fell apart. Even when the D was “good” early, it was not a particularly good lock down D, we just hit a lot of turnovers. Kind of a Steph Curry D. The 100% switching started getting us in trouble. We don’t maintain lanes correctly. And our high trap gets beat a lot just like used to happen to Cuonzo.
