gap is as high as you think. The secret to the big 12 for a long time has been their ability to schedule in the non conference...as a conference they don't schedule flat out awful teams. It tricks the computers a bit in to ranking them higher because of it. How many 4 seeds or better did the big 12 get all those years...seems like a lot and i'm not sure how often they actually played to their seeds.
