To be precise, your rating depends on how you do versus expected outcome.
If you exceed the expectation, your rating gets better.
If you fail to meet expectation, your rating gets worse.
If you’re expected to beat Auburn by 1 and you win by 1, your rating won’t change even if Auburn is a great team.
If you’re expected to beat Miss Valley State by 70 and you beat them by 70, your rating won’t change even if you played a poor team.
Who you played didn’t matter, it’s whether or not you met expectations against them.
If you’re expected to lose to Auburn by 10 and win by 10, you’ve greatly exceeded the expectation. If you’re expected do beat Miss Valley State by 50 and you win by 60, you’ve somewhat exceeded expectation.
