No, in states that have a high sales tax and no income tax, like Florida, the poor pay a much higher effective tax rate than the rich. Its an easy fact to look up. In states that have a flat sales tax, its about even, but the poor still pay a little higher effective rate due to things like deferred income. In states with a graduated income tax rate, similar to the federal income tax setup, the rich pay a higher effective rate. Some of us just think the rich can afford a higher rate better than the poor. I certainly don't hink the poor deserve a higher effective tax rate than the rich.
