to cap off her career here, continues Monday night against Miss St.
There really are only 3 possible winnable games left on the schedule:
Miss St
@ TAMU
@ Arkansas
And the only reason I list Miss St in this group is we get them at home, since they are clearly better than TAMU and Arkansas. Which is a little foolish on my part because we don’t seem to have a home court advantage of any kind; our best effort I thought was at Oklahoma.
Miss St is a good, but not great team. Saying they have a far better coach than we do seems redundant since you can also say that about every other SEC team. They have a NET ranking of 32 and are projected to be an 8 seed in the tournament, which seems about right.
They are just 3-4 in SEC play, but the losses have been to #1 SC, #11 Kentucky, #17 Tennessee and #28 Ole Miss. They also have a huge win over #15 Oklahoma by 4 points at home, and this week destroyed Auburn by 40 points, the team we just lost to by 15.
Listing TAMU on the road as even a possible win is looking less and less likely. This week they beat #11 Kentucky at home, and they also beat #28 Ole Miss at home earlier. Why we would fare better in College Station than UK and Ole Miss is a valid question.
So to me, avoiding the 0-16 record is going to come down to our game at Arkansas, who is truly horrendous. Their SEC losses have been by 30, 32, 34, 34, and 41 points. After a great start where Izzy averaged 28 ppg in her first 4 games, against great teams like Texas, LSU and Tennessee, she has been shut down in her last 2 games against Alabama and Vandy, scoring just 5 and 7 points. Don’t know if she is dinged up, or if teams are finally figuring out there is no other scoring threat and are double teaming her. Whatever the case, I just can’t imagine losing to this Arkansas team.
