I figured for me, it would be about a 7 year payback, assuming no increase in housing value. I have lots of equity in the house, so I can just pay off the loan when I sell the house. It will be attractive to the next buyer to tell them they have essentially no electrical costs living here, and is a great hedge against electrical costs. Minnesota is nice that I get they give me the same rate as current rate when I produce excess electricity to build up the credit, so it works well.
If that changed or batteries became better I could maybe go that way in the future.
