if Daly can handle the SS position. Most people seem to feel like it’s a done deal.
It just strikes me as a heck of an experiment to move a 3 year starting 3B player to SS for her senior year.
And we’ll just have to disagree on Lairds range (and quickness, which is a core skill of range). I thought it was excellent. Both going side to side, and moving up on short grounders and ranging backwards into short left field and short left center. Remains to be seen if Daly can come close to that.
And I’m not from Missouri but Walker still needs to “show me” she can hit consistently. If this experiment fails to produce the desired results I think it is more likely to be due to Walkers hitting than Dalys fielding at SS; she may actually be ok there…but she’s no Laird. Hope it all works out for both of them. We need a lock down infield defensively, and need the hitting to improve along with it.
Good discussion along the same lines could be had regarding the outfield, where there are at least 5 possibilities (maybe 6) to fit into 3 starting slots. But same general issues, getting a strong defense with speed out there, but who can also hit some. Would help a lot if Dodge has a strong finish to her career, after she struggled even more than Walker at the plate last year.
