And those "coach of the year" honors are at the *conference* level, for conferences with relatively few competitive programs.
Again, not trying to bash Brian Smith here, but none of these achievements you mention make him "the best coach we've ever had in any sport."
The only meaningful achievement in wrestling (i.e. the only worthwhile reason to fund it) is if you have a realistic chance of winning a team national title. But because of a few Big Ten powerhouses, we don't.
