manufacture at plants in China and ship all the way to Mexico... despite the fact that they have plants in Mexico that manufacture vehicles at lower cost than they can produce them in the US.

Also, China is continuing to strengthen its hand at all points in the process, from mining all the way through the process. They are also far ahead in the battery technology, with huge strides being made on an ongoing basis. One manufacturer already has started mass production of solid state batteries that are more energy dense, are safer, last much longer and can be charged far more rapidly.

Unless there is some way to change things it looks like China will quickly knock out virtually all competition in the market.

They have better products at much lower prices.

Is protectionism the answer?
