It’s both. Shaw is very limited on the offensive end

AND Gates does not tend to use him in a manner that maximizes those limited abilities.

And I’m not necessarily criticizing Gates for Shaw not playing much. His defense and rebounding are not so exceptional that we have to have him in the game and put up with his offensive limitations. Pierce is overall a better player.

I just feel like if we are going to put him in the game, then see if you can give him a few looks doing what he does best, and that may lead to other opportunities for the team.
