We've had a lot of discussion on the "professionalism" of college sports while working through this portal time period. Take a listen to this interview on CNBC. I missed it, but it was on Squawk Box yesterday and it's discussion on an interview with Marc Lasry(PE CEO of Avenue Capital and former Milwaukee Bucks owner) who believes schools will end up selling equity positions in their athletic programs. He further states, shockingly, that his firm is already in the process of bidding on a few.
The interview is driven by an article valuing the Top 75 NCAA programs which the SEC/Big 10 dominate. Spoiler alert, Missouri fairs poorly coming in at 35.
Regardless, it's an interesting interview and really shows how "out of control" this has become. There is some question if PE would go after individual sports, schools, or a revenue stream of the conference (hopefully the latter if it happens for our sake).
