Years ago in LA, "South-Central LA" was deemed to be a "racist dog whistle" for the high crime areas of Compton, Crenshaw, Gardena, Inglewood & Watts.

It was redefined as "South LA"... after a year or so, everyone knew when they heard about a crime in "South LA" it happened in Compton, Crenshaw, Gardena, Inglewood or Watts.
