I would say these are the rules/guidelines to play NCAA college sports. Your school is totally entitled to play college sports outside the umbrella of the NCAA, but if you volunteer to participate in NCAA college sports these are the rules of membership and participation.
1. Transferring comes with sitting out one season following the transfer, with the only exception being when there is a coaching change.
2. You have 4 years of NCAA playing eligibility. You may remain on scholarship longer than that, receive NIL longer than that, etc. but playing in NCAA games is restricted to a 4 year playing window. Redshirt and transfer years do not count toward that total. A well defined and rigid process will exist for applying for injury related waivers, but that is the sole exception.
3. Your NCAA playing eligibility ends when you reach 22.5 years of age. You can remain on scholarship after that age, continue to receive NIL after that age, etc. but you can’t play in NCAA games after that age.
4. As the NCAA it is our duty and responsibility to ensure academic standards and student athlete credibility is upheld in our member programs. Compliance and enforcement will pivot towards eradicating fake academic programs in our member schools, players not remaining academically eligible, and improper academic assistance provided to NCAA student athletes. To be an NCAA student athlete requires being a student. Member universities will be expected to comply and support these standards within their own institution, or will be subject to public embarrassment and sanctions.
All players and programs are totally free to opt out of this model and not adhere to the rules and guidelines that are in effect to our members. Membership and participation in the NCAA includes plentiful advantageous benefits, as well as agreement to adhere to the rules and guidelines adopted by the member universities. Please address concerns to your respective university president if you wish for them to reconsider their membership in the NCAA.
