If one looks at the costs vs benefits of playing a game of nuclear chicken with Russia, it is hard to believe that anyone would still think that doing so is worth it.

Potential benefits:

Ukraine gets to keep it's original territory, or perhaps at least more of it.
Russia is punished and humiliated and weakened (a primary goal of the warmongers in power).

Potential costs:

Thousands, to hundreds of thousands more Ukrainians and Russians die in a prolonged war.
The war expands into a regional war with Europe, costing tens of thousands to millions of additional lives &/or
The war goes nuclear, costing additional trillions of $ in damages and perhaps many millions of additional lives &/or:
The war becomes a world war and all of the above plus perhaps wipes out humanity forever.

It would seem to me that the potential risks are so astronomical that one intentionally taking such risks would have to be nearly 100% confident that either they could quickly win a nuclear war before the other side could launch their nukes, or that Russia is totally bluffing.

Is *that* how confident you are? If so, are you that confident that Russia is bluffing, or are you that confident that the US could "win" a nuclear war?

I am presuming that you aren't counting on a nuclear winter being counteracted by anthropogenic global warming, of course.
