bowls and rivalries would become meaningless. It use to be huge to play Kansas or Nebraska toward the end of the year no matter records because of the "rivalry" - now who cares. If you would ask Ohio State fans if they would rather lose to Michigan but make the playoffs and make a run to the CVP title game or win it there would no hesitation. It's not that far away from teams resting players in these "rivalry" games toward the end of the year once they have clinched the playoffs. Happens in the NFL all the time.
