behind adding Memphis & Tulane (instead of UNLV & Nevada) to meet the 8-member minimum requirement.

Memphis & Tulane's relatively stronger football programs would increase the chance of the new "Pac-8" getting the CFP's fifth AQ bid (i.e., their champ would be next-in-line after the SEC/ACC/B1G/B12).

Of course, once Oregon State and Washington State start reaching the playoffs every year as an auto-qualifier (effectively gaming the system), there will be calls to change the rules.
