Inflation: a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money.
I disagree with the notion that inflation is an increase in the supply of money. That is one cause of inflation.
The scarcity of a product can indeed bring about a general increase in the prices of goods. Oil has done that on several occasions.
