direct ties to it
Ever wonder why there are practically zero people on the Missouri side of the line once you go directly south of Belton/Raymore?
It's because the four counties south of that were the "burnt district" that got forcibly depopulated during those times and they never fully recovered
Ever wonder why KCMO specifically was able to become the primary large city and trading center in the region?
Part of the answer is because the previous largest trading centers in the region like Lexington MO and Osceola MO got caught in the equivalent of being in present day Eastern Ukraine or Gaza at the wrong time, ping ponged between the two warring sides and ravaged by both, and never regained prominence.
If the Missouri legislature had been able to reign in its Governor and stay truly neutral during that conflict at the time like it wanted to, those towns might not have been ravaged, and maybe one of those other random MO cities is the big one instead of KCMO.
that's a Marvel multiverse movie we never knew we needed
