In the art, history and English departments, you are more likely to find a unicorn than a conservative.
In science, the biological side is almost all lefties but the physical side tends to lean more conservative.
Math is always kind of 50/50.
The vocational stuff is usually pretty conservative.
Admin tends to be almost exclusively lefties.
Not everyone falls for the indoctrination but you do learn pretty quickly to keep quiet unless you want to be shouted down or worse. I don't pretend I am a lefty but I only share my views with a very select group. But by not being openly progressive you are assumed to be conservative.
Tenure preventing teachers from being fired is a wives' tale that is patently false. All tenure provides you are procedural rights. They cannot just let a tenured teacher go at the end of the school year like then can new teachers. But if a tenured teacher is not performing there is a pretty simple process for getting rid of them. But it does require a paper trail and a competent administration that can dot all the I's and cross all of the T's. Schools with bad teachers they cannot get rid of actually have bad administrations.
