Trying to make a mosaic out of the portal every year does not work with any degree of regularity and it does not lead to the ultimate goal.
The “right way“ is to sign three or four high quality high school recruits every year and keep most of them on campus for at least three years. Then find one or two guys from the portal to fill an inevitable hole that will develop.
Of course it’s not easy. It was never easy. It’s even harder now. But you have to have a plan in place rather than just winging it year by year.
