MU entered the SEC in the 2012-13 season, as the outgoing Big 12 champions and a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. Depending on how one weights criteria they were somewhere between the 2nd to 4th best SEC program with Arkansas and Florida, and then there was a huge drop off to 5th-14th.
In 2014 they hired Kim Anderson and never really recovered. We are now in the 10th SEC season since that event. Here are the combined decade program conference records
Kentucky: 126-43
Alabama: 98-72
Tennessee: 98-70
Arkansas: 95-74
Florida: 94-74
Auburn: 90-80
Texas A&M: 86-75
LSU: 85-83
South Carolina: 80-88
Mississippi State: 76-94
Mississippi: 74-96
Georgia: 62-108
Vanderbilt: 60-107
Missouri: 54-114
MU is also last over that period with an avg conference finish of 10.3. Is Gates and MU having a terrible season? Absolutely. But the reality is for a decade now MU has been the worst program in the SEC, and we gave up on being competitive in the sport at the exact same time most of our conference opponents started putting more effort into it. We would have to leapfrog so many programs now just to be consistently decent. This is all self inflicted, we joined the SEC very well positioned for success.
