the underlying pre-requisites for an effecient anarchy like pickle advocates for includes, among others:

1. a population of above average intelligence
2. a population capable of sharing a similar philosophical view (the nap) that isn't inherent in human nature i.e. it has to be taught

As populations in a region grow the possibility of internal collapse increases exponentially as a result.

Not to mention the threat posed by out-groups you may come into contact with that don't have 1. or 2. means you have to be able to solidify those in the in-group to stand against them.

You can still have anarchy w/out 1. or 2. but it ends up looking like 90's somalia.
