I remember Gates saying something to the following: Using the portal to get this program on the right track in years one and two. By year 3 the plan is to be on track with HS recruiting and that year of recruiting will be the backbone to build for the long haul.
It looks like that plan has been working, but year 3 will have a lot of youngsters with little experience. So, the portal may still play a role for our roster's floor time will getting more experience for the young.
