Don't follow rask's example and put words in my mouth. I only offered perspective. Unionists used the 14th to bar former Confederates from holding public office, but the effort failed when voters elected them anyway. The effort was abandoned after only a couple of years. A prime example is our own Sen. Francis M. Cockrell and many, many others.
