violence is not to be a part of the believer's response to anything. You were trying to bring up some possible inconsistencies and so I'm trying to show you that it isn't inconsistent, but Christ was instructing his disciples to prepare for what is to come using veiled language.
He did this often to garner thought. He told the rich young ruler that unless he sold all his possessions and gave them to the poor, he would not enter the kingdom of heaven. Every believer should know, that it's not by works that we are justified. He was demonstrating to the rich man and his disciples that it's impossible for man to earn his way to heaven (camel through a needle eye, etc). This caused the disciples to ask "how can anyone be saved!?!?!"
“With man it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”
