teenagers in math classrooms on a daily basis. If you handed them a bill for $27.57 and asked them to calculate a 15% tip you would probably get answers ranging from thirty-seven cents up to NASA's annual budget.

Tax plus half of that number is a pretty foolproof way to get near 15%.
