I don't get tip inflation

I once waited tables and was ecstatic to get anything over 15%. Many tips were between 10-15%. That was during the 80's. It's not like product prices have stayed the same since the 80's. In fact, restaurant prices have probably outpaced general inflation. So, wait staff is getting a raise with every price increase. No real need to inflate the percentage of service tip plus 20%.
