the big debate is around when is it its own being. Up until more modern science, the birth was considered the start of life as we know it. Otherwise it was pretty much incubating and completely dependent on the mother, and sort of considered property of the mother (bad description, but best I know how to describe it), so it was the mother's sole decision.
as science and understandings advanced, it became more ambiguous. Now there are about 100 different lines that can be drawn around it.
add on top of that the fact that a baby is also completely dependent on care in early life, and a sexualized culture that brings about babies.
there are a few logical places that can be put across as suggestions that most can agree on, but even then, by logical definition it is murder, but is not treated as such.
