I’m not sure the best coach in the MIAA would not look better on paper. Didn’t Indiana State have a great season? Were these level guys, that actually won something, instead of going 10-14 in the AAC uninterested? I can see why it looks like a diversity hire. The resume is thin. Gates actually had some notable accomplishments and was an assistant for a ACC winning program.
