In the 70s, 80s, and 90s the Republican Party was the party of gun control. Ronald Reagan restricted guns in California. As president he required atf to approve all transfers of certain weapons. He and bush supported the Brady bill and passed the gun free schools act to let children be unprotected.
With Republican support Clinton signed the assault weapons ban.
But since then 26 states now, (143,000,000 people), can now carry a concealed handgun without any sort of license or permit. In 2000 there were 3, Vermont, Alaska & Arizona.
The local movement has fought back and helped preserve our rights. The same is currently being done for drug use. It was done for gay rights. It can be done for other causes as well.
