not a sociology class debate. The fact is, there is an entire segment (pretty significant) of the population which is attempting to draw a line in the sand. The question, as posited in the OP, is whether brand managers should simply ignore them because they may not agree with that segment’s perception of ‘normal’.
The test, which is being proved or disproved in this situation is whether that segment of the population can have a measurable impact on the brands which choose to ignore them.
