Why are diplomatic relations needed.

Why can a company not go over there and trade with another company?

Why is border security essential? Nothing happens in the act of crossing the border. Stuff happens elsewhere

Why would competing NGOs not likely do better in the long run. We should only have one solution, but a bunch of bureaucrats?

Private businesses will screw up less, of the ones that screw up will be out of business. As well as the effects of just one business failing will be much less negative versus a government failure.

Yes, I can think pretty much everything in government could be privatized, except military defense, and protecting people from infringements if that were the sole focus.
