24 seasons without Norm. How's that working out?

Not very good as far as making a Final Four.

It's silly to say Mizzou would have made a Final Four in those 32 seasons if Norm had not been the coach.

Those 32 seasons would have probably looked a lot like the last 24. Shuffling through a variety of coaches who have all failed to varying degrees and have been a total failure if you're sole objective is making a Final Four. (This isn't passing judgment on Gates. An encouraging start, but his grade is incomplete).
