IMO, that's a bigger issue than parents.

I have a hard time believing I would ever allow that to happen to my kid. But, I follow medical professional's advice on what is best for my kid a lot. And if medical professionals believe that is the best thing for the kid, they sure as hell better have a scientific backing for that reasoning.
If a parent is pushing for it outside of medical professionals, they should be held responsible. But I have a hard time believing that is being done.
