If a person had a distant relative and say less than 1% of their lineage was from the colonial period, I would not consider them colonial. Nor can I assign to them any blame for things that happened 200-400 years ago, whether they are colonial or not. We need to accept our ancestors did some bad things when viewed thru a modern lens, but they left us with this great country and they did do some great things. Some people think everything they did is illegitimate because of the few bad things they did, but that is nonsense.
