For example, I think a bullpen's effectiveness is more mental than skill. I think the reason that Royals bullpen in 2014/2015 was one of the best, and every bullpen transaction Dayton made was a success, was in large part to how Ned Yost managed them. I think hitting can be like that to a lesser extent.
Starting pitching is a different story all together. Royals aren't winning anything of note with the best manager, but they would have had a chance to crack 500.
Besides, the pitching development or lack there of is more in regards to Cal Eldred being fired and not Matheny. Glad to see them both go. And more than anything, it just shows that Sherman is not ok with losing.
