to join the B1G even with junior membership. The Big XII was an unstable and dysfuntional conference. Missouri's natural fit Big 8 (a great conference by the way) was taken over in the merger with the Texas schools.
It was Texas A&M leaving the dysfunction of the Big XII and joining the SEC that created a once in a lifetime opportunity for Missouri.
There are many other teams that would have traded with Missouri if given a choice. Ask West Virginia fans for example.

There is this fallacy that Missouri can't compete well in the SEC. It can but It starts with university leadership committed to sports excellence.
