done bad to very, very bad things do indeed turn people away from Christianity.

That's a natural tendency for people to reject those who don't do what they claim to believe.

On the other hand, it isn't necessarily true that one should not join a health club because they know one or more fat people who joined and they never go there and are still very fat... Or that we shouldn't call the police when someone is attempting to break into our home because we've read of corrupt police doing bad things... or not to call the fire department because we know some fireman who's an alcoholic or is taking dangerous drugs.
