Several reasons.
1. We currently only have 2 scholarships QB’s on the roster (prior to Abraham).
2. Not sure if Sam Horn will be on the roster this Fall. Hopeful, just not sure.
3. The 2 current QB’s have 1 collegiate start between the two of them.
4. QB is the most important position in football. You don’t stop trying to improve at that position. Especially for a program that’s trying to take the “next” step.
5. This is the SEC. If you aren’t getting better, you getting worse.
Don’t get me wrong, I like both Cook and Macon. I would love to see one of those two assert themselves as “the guy” going forward. It’s a scary thought to think the team is an injury away for only having one scholarship on the roster. I think most college coaches would prefer to start fall camp with 4 QB’s on the roster. Ish happens.
I think it is extremely important that the program keeps the momentum going. They had a decent start w/ the 5-5 season in 2020. The recruiting successes the last two class has been great. The new indoor practice facility is another exciting step forward. To keep that momentum going, the Tigers have got to have a good season on the field. I think most fans would be happy with a 7-5 or 8-4 season. It’s going to be tough to get there no matter how you look at it, but darn near impossible without good QB play.
