question, it seems to me.

1. People are flawed and individuals within governments are susceptible to influence by many parties, including foreign ones. The weakest of people will even succumb to the influence of enemies of our country and of people in general.

2. The size and power of our government and the extent to which it is corrupt are the real problems we face. The size and power are inherently going to lead to big problems as our Founding Fathers knew all too well.
