KJ Walton got no offers from the like 10 D1 programs in his home state of Indiana because he was such an academic risk. Kim signed him.
D'Angelo Allen was a huge known academic risk, and transferred away with a 0.0 GPA.
Tremaine Isabell had all kinds of credentials and scholastic question when we signed him.
Martaviane Payne had such academic issues he only played in the exhibition season before stepping away to focus on academics and leaving at semester.
The tutor scandal revealed that Russell Woods got improper help and couldn't do basic level math.
Terrence Phillips left the university in shame after an investigation revealed a multiyear pattern of improper conduct.
Etc, etc, etc. He brought in anyone he could with no consideration of APR issues. And those players kept turning over at a greater rate than at any point in MU history. APR was a narrative only, it had no impact on the way the program actually operated.
