performing in 1981 and 1987. 1990 was the worst NCAA tourney loss in program history and he certainly shares some blame, but it was much more like the Norfolk State type of upset rather than something caused by coaching.

Given how long his track record was that isn't atypical for NCAA tourney results, and I think people gloss over how many good NCAA tourney results he had as well. Didn't help that one of his most NCAA tourney capable teams in 1989 he missed coaching due to cancer.
