A guy like Self or Calipari needs overwhelming talent relative to the competition to succeed. Even if there is reasonably comparable talent they lose almost every time, and frequently to teams who have considerably less talent. Pearl is in that category.
A guy like Tony Bennet or Mark Few can win at a high level with or without overwhelming talent. That is the sign of an actual good coach. For MU specific examples, neither our 2011-12 or 1993-94 had overwhelming talent. They had adequate talent and were well coached.
