If I hire a worker who is less productive because of their gender, race, sexual orientation, etc than I am paying a cost for doing so. Now I might be ok with paying that cost in productivity or I might not be. But it’s up to me if I want to hire only black women to dig coal or only straight white men to run my boutique or only elderly asian people to drive my taxi service.
