Current format has number of games that “appeal” too only the East or West regional tv audience. A pod system would have more games between East & West and arguably appeal to both. Further, a pod system would allow for another round of post season games.

Issue is 14 teams do not go evenly into four pods.

One solution is to add two teams. Would be surprised if Texas and OU would join. With all due respect to aTm, Texas is the school in Texas, the state’s population is rapidly growing and in the Big 12 Texas has one competitive program. If it came to the SEC, it would still have OU plus one or two SEC heavyweight programs every regular season. The same can be said of OU.

Additionally, the politicos in Texas and Oklahoma may not let Texas and OU go anywhere without Tech & O State go too.
