We should pay attention to it. But we should not allow emotion to rule our decision making. Particularly with respect to large and critical issues.

Had there been one attack in DC and one or two in other areas over the course of weeks and months I may be more inclined to agree. That for months, and now more than a year in Portland, riots and destruction have been tolerated if not largely excused, I think blowing the DC event into more than what it was is giving in to the grandeur of the setting. Yes, it was horrible. Yes, there should be stiff punishment. But it was a tiny fraction of those in attendance. It was not an armed insurrection. One shot was fired and we still didn’t know who it was who fired it.

I don’t condone in any way what the intruders did. I have said from day one those who participated should pay the price. But it is being overblown for various reasons.
